Led by sophomore heavyweight Miguel Villanueva, the Madera South wrestling team traveled to Tulare and finished runner-up in the Mission Oak TrueWrestler Invitational.
While the host team Hawks won the tournament with 207 points, the Stallions had a number of wrestlers contribute to the respectable second place finish (150 points) ahead of Central-Fresno (134.5) and Mendota (127) on Saturday.
“We took 16 kids and 14 of them got medals,” said Madera South head coach Jason Gaeth-Pearce. “We wrestled better and we’re finally starting to wrestle to our potential.”
