Stallions take first, third at DeWitt

In the season opening cross country meet, Madera South cross country guru Rich Parris seems to have more weapons at his disposal in another run at the Div. I Valley Championship.

Parris, who has seen his teams win the Div. III, II and I Championships in the last three seasons, lost three runners to graduation, but seems to have reloaded. All three of Parris’ graduates are running at four-year colleges — Jose Herrera with Long Beach State, Uriel Cabanas with Fresno State and Ismael Guzman at Fresno Pacific.

On Saturday at the Dennis DeWitt Cross Country Invitational at Lions Town & Country Park, the Madera South boys cross country team, led by sophomore Lalo Herrera and freshman Miguel Villar, captured the boys team title over Clovis North.

Sophomore Jonnie Montano and freshman Franki Navarro won their respective races to lead the Stallions girls team to a third place finish...
