FRESNO — With an exuberant yell, Madera South cross country coach Rich Parris was able to let out 14 years of waiting.
In those 14 years, Parris built a foundation of success at not one, but two Madera schools. After winning five Central Section championships at Madera, Parris set his sights on Madera South. Call it the perfect combination of coach and athletes. Parris aimed for state gold and his runners did everything their coach asked.
Parris’ Stallions teams won six straight Central Section championships — two each at Div. III, Div. II and Div. I — but had yet to see the podium at the state meet, reserved for the top three teams in the state.
