Stallions surge past Coyotes

After dropping the first set, the Madera South Stallions ran past a stunned Madera Coyote boys volleyball team to win the first County/Metro Athletic Conference meeting between the crosstown rivals.

The Coyotes won the first set, 25-22, but trouble was already brewing for the team in blue. The Stallions stormed back to win the second set 25-16 and the third set 25-20. Madera tried a comeback in the fourth set, but the Stallions proved too much in a 25-17 victory in the fourth set Thursday.

“They were a little timid in that first set,” Madera South head coach Steve Gugleilmana said. “We told them to not hold back and work hard.”

Madera South had three players with eight or more kills, led by Chris Federline with 12. Sebastian Uribe and Jonathan Abraham each had eight kills. Seth Robles had 22 assists and Sebastian Ramirez had nine digs...
