When it comes to the top athletes in the Central Section, there is no question that members on the Madera South track and field team — especially the runners — can be mentioned up there with the elite groups of not only the Valley, but also the state.
That’s been expected of athletes coached by Madera South’s Rich Parris.
But when the Madera South boys 4X1,600 meter relay team competed in the nationally renowned 46th annual Arcadia Invitational, the Stallions had no inclination that they would be bringing back the leading time in the country for that event.
The relay team of Jose Herrera, Uriel Cabanas, Ismael Guzman-Berdejo and Juan Macias posted the nation’s current top mark according to prepcaltrack.com with a time of 17:44.18 as they beat out the No. 2 team El Toro (17:45.45) of the Southern Section...
