In the case of the Madera South girls soccer team, head coach Patrick Evans believes his team has all the tools in place to make a run for the CIF Central Section Division II championship.
The Stallions are coming off an 12-8-1 record which included a 9-1 North Yosemite League co-championship with McLane-Fresno. It was the third straight NYL championship for the Stallions and second one under Evans.
Despite back-to-back first round playoff exits in the previous two seasons, Evans feels this will be the strongest team he’s had since he took over the program in 2010.
“This is my 23rd season of coaching this sport and I feel this is the toughest, most intelligent team that I’ve been around,” Evans said. “We only have 16 players but they are remarkable, like a platoon unit. If we stay healthy throughout the season, it would be a great disappointment if we didn’t make it to the section finals.” ...
