It wasn’t just any ordinary regular season win.

This one was special and it showed on the Madera South boys volleyball players faces — looks of joy, relief and, above all, redemption.

For the first time in the program’s eight-year history, the Stallions handed perennial powerhouse team Bullard-Fresno a loss despite trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth set.

In an epic five-set match, Madera South (9-11) not only pulled out the 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-12) home victory over the Knights on Thursday night in the County/Metro Athletic Conference opener but, as Stallions head coach Steve Guglielmana put it, “got the monkey off our back.” ...
