Stallions get narrow win over Edison

After eight matches, only one match remained on the court — No. 3 doubles — to determine winner between the Madera South Stallion boys tennis team and Edison-Fresno in a County/ Metro Athletic Conference match Thursday.

The Tigers won four of the six singles matches and needed to win a doubles match to secure the victory.

However, that didn’t happen. Madera South’s No. 3 doubles team of Eduardo Rodriguez and Anthony Basada won the first set 6-2, but dropped the second set 6-3. However, in the third set tiebreaker, Basada and Rodriguez came through with a 13-11 win to give the Stallions a team match.

“It was an amazing match,” head coach Cliff Ayers said. “Eduardo and Anthony had a roller coaster third set that kept going back and forth before finally pulling it out. The guys showed a lot of what they are made of today. I’m incredibly proud to call myself their coach.” ...
