For Madera South Stallion head coach Nate Perez, the win was more personal. For his girls volleyball team, the win represented a resolve in dealing with unfortunate circumstances.
Before Thursday’s County/Metro Athletic Conference match with the Bullard-Fresno Knights, Perez could look down his bench and see middle blocker Lilly Martinez on crutches and libero Edith Horta in street clothes because of school policy.
His Stallions made big play after big play in a 3-1 victory over the Knights to improve to 3-3 on the season and avenge a previous loss to the Knights.
