After taking two weeks off to get ready for the County Metro/Athletic Conference, the Madera South Stallions girls volleyball team showed some rust in a 3-0 loss to Bullard-Fresno in the opener.

The Stallions played with perennial power Bullard for most of the match, but couldn’t make the plays when they needed to Thursday night at Madera South.

“Tonight it came down to a lack of effort on our side, which was unfortunate because I thought our touch was better than Bullard’s this evening,” coach Nathan Perez said. “Ultimately, they wanted to win this match and it showed.”

Bullard only outscored the Stallions 77-69 in the three matches...
