FRESNO — It was a close battle in the first half between the Madera South Stallions and the Fresno Warriors as each football team was fighting to get its first win of the season.

After holding a slight 8-6 edge at halftime, the Warriors (1-4) opened up the game in the second half behind the hard-nosed running of Robert Lowers as Fresno beat Madera South, 31-6, to notch its first victory Friday night at Sunnyside Stadium.

With Fresno running the wing-T offensive rush attack under new head coach Rick Stewart, Lowers collected 195 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.

Lowers gained most of those yards in the second half. He gained 156 second half yards with two scores as the Warriors outscored the Stallions, 24-0...
