For most Div. III teams, settling for a tie against the defending Div. I section boys soccer champion would’ve been plenty, or in some cases, a major moral victory.

Not for Madera South or its head coach Cristino Armiento, who showed the true competitiveness that he and his players have.

The Stallions could have walked away safe and sound with a 2-2 tie against Tri-River Athletic Conference team Clovis West.

Instead Armiento accepted Golden Eagles head coach Neil Deans offer to play past regulation...
