Even though the Madera South Stallions were leading by two runs heading into the seventh, head coach Kelly Valmonte knew her team had to focus to get the final outs of the game.

Hoover’s leadoff batter in the top of the seventh drew a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice and went to third on a groundout. With two outs, four straight Hoover batters singled to drive in three runs to steal a 4-3 victory Friday at Madera South.

“We have to learn to play all seven innings of a game and not just two,” Valmonte said. “We had them on the ropes in the seventh and just couldn’t finish the seventh inning.”

The Stallions took the lead in the first inning. Leadoff batter Jessica Owen drew a walk, advanced to second on a Nicole Sosa single, went to third on a passed ball and beat a throw to the plate on Kristina Valle's groundout...
