The Madera South Stallions girls volleyball team looked to have the match in hand in recording a first set victory.

However, the Reedley Pirates jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the second set and didn’t look back for a 3-1 non-league victory at Madera South on Thursday.

The Stallions won the first set, 25-22, holding off a late Reedley rally. Reedley came back to win the second set 25-19 and close out the match with a 25-14 and a 25-17 win.

“This was a microcosm of what I saw in practice this week” head coach Nate Perez said. “We didn’t pass that well on serve receive. There were a lot of things that made us successful in Watsonville and we just didn’t see that tonight. We had some good offensive plays on the outside, but it’s hard to get them the ball passing the way we were.” ...
