In its final tune-up before the beginning of the County/Metro Athletic Conference, the Madera South boys basketball team played a complete game to pick up a victory over the Sunnyside-Fresno Wildcats.
The Wildcats just came off a victory over the Madera Coyotes and were looking for the Madera sweep. However, the Stallions outscored the Wildcats in the fourth quarter and closed the game by going 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the final two minutes for a 68-59 victory at Madera South on Friday.
“It’s a step in the right direction in trying to finish a game,” head coach Jody Sharp said. “We haven’t done a good job in the third quarter in a lot of our games. My focus was to try to come out and have a good third quarter and put ourselves in position to win at the end. We did that, got to the free throw line, made free throws and made stops. It’s nice to finish.”
The Stallions outscored the Wildcats by four in the third and five in the fourth for the victory. Madera South helped itself by shooting 46 percent (23-of-50) from the field, including 7-of-15 from 3-point land (46 percent)...
