Madera South Stallion softball coach Kelly Valmonte chalked up her team’s season opener against Atwater as a learning experience.

The Stallions were still learning the signs in an 11-5 loss to the Falcons on a cold and misty Thursday at Madera South.

“Four players are returning starters and only two of them are seniors,” head coach Kelly Valmonte said. “We are still learning what the younger kids are capable of.”

Tiffany Diaz suffered the loss in the circle, allowing all 11 runs. However, five of those were earned during Madera South’s five errors...
