After a tough loss to the Sanger Apaches on Tuesday, the Madera South Stallions baseball team rode the right arm of junior Donovan Bertoncini to record a rare easy County/Metro Athletic Conference victory.
The Stallions scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning with the benefit of just one hit. Bertoncini did the rest. He held the Apaches to one hit over the final four innings for a 7-0 victory to improve to 3-10 in the CMAC.
“We were different today than we were Tuesday,” head coach John Fernandez said. “We talked about it Wednesday and the kids responded. Donovan did a really good job. He took control of his performance. That’s maturity he has shown.”
Bertoncini allowed just five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. He threw 90 pitches and allowed only three base runners to reach scoring position...
