Stallions can’t keep up in loss

With 37.5 seconds left in the game, Markus Andrews came down with a key rebound for the Madera South Stallions with a 71-70 lead to conclude the first night of the Madera South Classic.

Andrews fed to point guard and three-year varsity player Ruben Rodriguez. Head coach Jody Sharp told Rodriguez to hold the ball because Roosevelt-Fresno was in a foul situation as the 35-second shot clock was on Madera South’s side.

Rodriguez, however, found a seam in the Roosevelt defense, drove to the hoop, but missed a reverse layup with about 25 seconds left in the game.

Roosevelt was able to regroup and Darrian Epperson hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds in the game for a 73-71 lead. Rodriguez tried to tie the score coming back, but missed the game-tying jumper from the baseline...
