Stallions battle back in loss to Panthers

After three and half innings, the Madera South softball team trailed 10-0 to San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno in a County/Metro Athletic Conference game.

The Stallions could’ve easily waved the white flag, threw in the towel and packed up their bags — whatever phrase works in this case — but instead the Stallions (8-20, 1-7 CMAC) extended the game to seven innings Friday in an 11-8 home loss to the Panthers (14-17, 2-6 CMAC).

“I think our players just relaxed and were more confident in their skills,” Madera South head coach Kelly Valmonte said. “We made some changes including some adjustments on defense and that kind of brought new life to the kids, which was awesome for them.”

The Stallions were led at the plate by senior captains Kristina Valle and Destanie Martinez, who each went 2-for-4, while sophomores Kristen Whaite and Juana Rios were 2-for-3 in the game...
