Winning a championship doesn’t happen overnight. For the Madera South boys and girls cross country teams, it took months of hard work to build up for a title and it all started with a single step forward in off-season training.

Now, the moment of truth for the two Stallion teams — both top-ranked in their respective divisions — will happen today in the CIF Central Section Championships in Fresno’s Woodward Park.

The Madera South girls’ Div. II race begins today at 2 while the Stallion boys will run in the Div. I race at 2:30 p.m.  

Madera South’s boys — ranked No. 2 state according to www.prepcaltrack.com and No. 6 in the country by www.xcnation.com — is shooting for its sixth straight section title and second straight in Div. I. The Stallions won the Div. III titles in 2008 and 2009 before winning Div. II championships in 2010 and 2011...
