It was a pair of goals each by juniors Jose Herrera and Lalo Guzman that helped the Madera South boys soccer team advance in the first round of the C.I.F. Central Section Division III playoffs.
Herrera struck twice in the first half while Guzman added two in the second as the No. 4 Stallions eliminated No. 13 Hanford, 4-2, Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium.
Madera South will host No. 5 Wasco in Thursday’s quarterfinals at 3 p.m.
“It’s a big win for us,” Madera South head coach Cristino Armiento said. “Especially when you know you’re the higher seed, it’s never easy because you are expected to win and the pressure is on you more than the lower one coming in.” ...
