After eight years of wearing the purple and black while supporting the Stallions, Madera South athletic director Marty Bitter may have to find a different wardrobe with his new job as the Director of Athletics for Madera Unified School District.

Bitter, who has been with the district for 18 years, is the only athletic director in Madera South’s short history.

“I’ll wear neutral,” he said. “I’ve been in Madera Unified for 22 years, beginning as a basketball coach at Madera High. I have spent more time on the Coyote pyramid than the Stallions. I love the kids in Madera. When this opportunity came up, I was super excited. For me, it’s about creating relationships and making Madera a place other people want to get to. It’s about setting a goal and vision that our kids can be successful. It’s not about a color. It’s about Madera.”

Bitter has seen Madera South grow athletically, beginning with freshmen and sophomores in the North Sequoia League...
