Before the spring sports season really gets underway, the final winter sport will find out who will be headed to the State Championships next week in Bakersfield.

The Madera Coyote wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to The Master’s Wrestling Championships in Visalia to see who will get a state bid. Leading the way were Daniel Ruiz, at 120 pounds, and Alec Gamboa, at 170 pounds, who each won the consolation championships at last week’s Yosemite Divisionals at Madera South.

Also wrestling for a bid for the Coyotes were Anthony Munoz, Isaac Garcia, Miguel Ruiz, Kyle Mask and James Valenzuela. Peter Mendoza represented Madera South at 220 pounds.

In Madera, the Coyotes baseball team will host the Sierra-Tollhouse Chieftains today in Mel Parker Field for its season opener before beginning the Central Tournament on Tuesday...
