The state's No. 7 ranked Clovis Buchanan Bears ran away with the team title Friday at the Tri-River Athletic Conference boys' cross country championships with perennial power Clovis West placing second.
But after that it was up for grabs as Clovis, Madera and Clovis East battled it out for the next three spots and Fresno Central finished a distant sixth place.
The Coyotes were edged out by Clovis and finished fourth, but this wasn't decided until the final runners crossed the finish line on the 3.1-mile Woodward Park course in Fresno.
Kevin Poythress continued his impressive season by running a personal-best 16:35 to place ninth overall and in the process achieve All-TRAC status.
