In just their second year of playing in the North Sequoia League, the Div. V Liberty Hawks have proven they can mix it up with league foes in higher divisions. And they will get another test this week when hosting the defending NSL and Div. IV champion Chowchilla Redskins.
Both teams make their living with a punishing ground game. The Redskins still run the double-wing and enter the contest averaging 303 yards per game, 240 of that total rushing. Meanwhile, under first-year head coach Mike Nolte, who has installed the wing-T at Liberty, the Hawks are racking up 302 yards per game of total offense, with the running attack accounting for 258.
The Redskins are reeling in the midst of dropping three of their last four games, with the lone win being a 35-0 pounding of Sierra-Tollhouse. Liberty has also lost three of its past four, with one being a narrow 22-21 loss to Sierra.
Another contrast is that the Redskins were hammered 45-26 by Washington Union- Easton team earlier in league play that barely pulled out a 14-6 win over the Hawks.
