Hawks look for win against Chieftains

Thursday, October 29, 2009

By Tyler Takeda

On paper, the Liberty Hawks look to have an easy game Friday night against the Sierra-Tollhouse Chieftains. However, that's why the game is played, because paper doesn't always predict who will win.

Although the Chieftains have a 4-3 record, Sierra has been outscored 111-17 in all three of its North Sequoia League losses. One of Sierra's victories has a direct connection to Liberty's playoff seeding. Sierra defeated Fowler, 35-28, in Week 2 and the Hawks lost to the Redcats earlier this season.

When it comes to defending the Chieftains, the offense centers around quarterback Colton Zimmerman (6-0, 180) and running back Gavin Hamilton (6-1, 195). Hamilton has rushed for 489 yards this season, averaging almost 70 yards per game.

Zimmerman has passed for 367 yards this season with four touchdowns and has rushed for 360 yards and four more touchdowns. He has accounted for 43 percent of the offense. The combination of Zimmerman and Hamilton have combined for 72 percent of the offense.
