After a nearly five-month hiatus, the LoanMart Madera Speedway saw some action in its season opener.
The eight-month racing season on the “Fastest 1/3 Mile in the West” officially started as the speedway hosted the Spears SRLSouthwest Tour Series Melo’s Gas & Gear 151 presented by 51 FIFTY Energy Drink featuring the Legends of the Pacific, SRLS2 Late Model Series, LunkerDaddy Limited Late Models, Toyota Sedans and the 18-Second Bracket Race.
The defending SRL Spears Southwest Tour series champion Derek Thorn was the big winner Saturday night in the 151- lap main as he held on to place ahead of Jim Pettit II, who broke Thorn’s qualifying track record time with a mark of 13.482. Thorn set the record last season with a time of 13.942.
