Speedway to honor fallen driver

The LoanMart Madera Speedway will host a likely emotional night this Saturday, as twin 24-lap main events in the Toyota Sedans class will honor driver Jeff Doran, who died earlier this year.

Doran was a well-known figure around the Madera track for more than 20 years, both as a driver and track official.

Del McIntosh, one of several drivers to take a checkered flag in the Toyota Sedans this season, said that Doran — whose favorite driver was Jeff Gordon and thus the significance of the number 24 — was an innovative member of the sport.

“Loved him or hate him, he was a guy that you respected,” McIntosh said. “He was a track official for 10 years, and loved to torment the racers. Then he became a racer for over 10 years and loved to torment the officials! He was a die-hard race fan and he loved the Madera Speedway.”...
