Speedway gets ready for Pombo/Sargent Classic

After a week off, the LoanMart Madera Speedway is preparing for a night of open wheel racing that will honor one of California racing’s greatest rivalries.

Renamed the Pombo/Sargent Classic after the legendary duels between Al Pombo and Marshall Sargent in the 1950s and 1960s, the night will be host to several prominent events with reduced ticket prices, from $27 to $15 for adults.

Those races include: the Pabst Blue Ribbon Winged World Series, the BCRA/USAC Midgets, NCMA Sprints, Vintage Super Modified, Valley Sportsman, and Vintage Hard Tops.

Headlining the race is Madera’s Kyle Vanderpool, who won the last two Winged World Series races in Madera. He is also the series points leader...
