Speedway gears up for harvest

After a week off for the Madera District Fair, the LoanMart Madera Speedway will roar back to life tonight in the beginning of the Harvest Classic, comprising two consecutive days of energetic action, owner Kenny Shepherd said.

“These two nights are some of the biggest of the year for us,” Shepherd said. “We’ve got the local guys on one night and the big-name show with Bigfoot the monster truck the next … it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Tonight, race classes comprised primarily of local drivers will take to the track with admission tickets only $5, Shepherd said.

“Well back in 2007 the locals were pretty much excluded in years past from the Harvest Classic,” Shepherd said. “So we wanted to turn it into a two-day event to include the locals. And then we wanted to do another $5 night for fans, so mostly local-based fans that can’t afford the bigger shows like Saturday have the opportunity to come out and enjoy some great, inexpensive entertainment...
