Speedway features first 18 Second Bracket race

Madera Speedway premiered the new 18 Second Bracket race on Saturday with racecars from the Toyota Sedans, 4- Bangers, Sports Mods and Lunker Daddy Late Model divisions.

After the local classes featuring the Lunker Daddy Late Models, Toyota Sedans, Hobby Stocks, MSTs and 4- Bangers raced, the 18 Second Bracket made its debut for the first time on an asphalt track.

It was Fresno’s Kyle Fortney that became the first driver to win the 30-lap main in the eight-car innovative race introduced by Madera Speedway promoter Kenny Shepherd.

Fortney, who took fourth place in the Toyota Sedans race earlier in the evening, finished second overall in the bracket race behind Lunker Daddy Late Model car driver Nastasia Dodd, but because of the 18-second “breakout” rule in which a driver is disqualified from winning if he or she goes faster than 18 seconds at any point in the race, he was ruled the official winner and received the $200 cash prize...
