Speedway to end season with a smashing good time

The LoanMart Madera Speedway is going to end its season in messy, slippery style, with a first-of-its kind $10,000 shootout race to kick things off.

This Saturday, the Speedway will host its 7th annual Pumpkin Smash Halloween Bash, which track owner Kenny Shepherd said for first-time attendees “is nothing like you’ve ever seen.”

“At 7 p.m. is when the fun, crazy festivities kick in,” Shepherd said. “First we let all the kids go trick-or-treating on the front straightaway and through the pits where race teams will decorate their sections and have candy and all that. We also take them on a hay ride through the pits and everything as well.”

But after that, the kids return to the front straightaway to take part in the activity that gives the pumpkin smash its name, Shepherd said...
