A season’s worth of efficient racing at the Madera Speedway all paid off for five drivers on Championship Night when track titles were given out Saturday in the LunkerDaddy Late Models, Toyota Sedans, Hobby Stocks, MSTs and 4-Banger classes.
Tony Schmitz capped off his championship season with his seventh straight main win in the 30-lap LunkerDaddy Late Model race.
Schmitz got an early challenge from second place finisher Jason Aguirre before he was able to break away from him on Lap 14 on the way to his first title in 26 years.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Schmitz said. “We put a good season together and it’s finally here. It’s the first time we have ever chased points all the way until the end and we made it.” ...
