Despite trailing by a wide margin with seven laps to go in the USAC/BCRA Midgets race, 17-year-old Michael Snider never gave up hope.
A great jump by Snider on the lap 93 restart propelled him past leader Nick Chivello on the way to the checkered flag as he won the 100- lap main on Saturday at the Madera Speedway in the Gerhardt Classic. The race was round 3 of Super Saturday, featuring the 360/410 Super Modifieds, NCMA Sprints, USAC Sprints and Ford Focus Midgets.
In a race that started with 21 cars on the newly paved track, Snider took the brief lead after lap 26 only to be passed by Chivello and trail for the next 65.
With Chivello clearly in command of the race, Davey Hamilton forced a caution when his car hit the wall on turn 1...
