SANGER — When a team in football is looking for a way to create separation from its opponent on the scoreboard, sometimes a big play can serve as a major energizer for the players.

Whether it’s a long touchdown pass, a big-time hit or a dazzling return on special teams, those exciting plays can usually help ignite a team and completely shift the momentum of a game.

On the other hand, allowing a big play could also serve as a disheartening backbreaker that takes the wind out of the sails for the opposing team.

When the Madera South Stallions (1-8, 0-4 County/Metro Athletic Conference) faced Sanger (6-3, 2-2) there were plenty of big plays from both teams on the Apaches’ Senior Night...
