Roberts’ blast helps Coyotes edge Sanger

After losing two straight County/Metro Athletic Conference games, the Madera baseball team had a serious gut check when it faced a Sanger squad that was looking to kick the Coyotes when they were down.

Seniors Scotty Roberts and JoJo Contreras weren’t about to let their team drop three straight decisions as they helped lead the Coyotes to a 3-2 league win over the Apaches on Tuesday in Mel Parker Field.

“Getting a win feels good, it builds our team’s confidence and just makes everybody feel better,” Coyote head coach Andy Underwood said. “I would expect them to come out and play even better in the next game.”

The Coyotes will try to complete the three-game conference season-sweep of the Apaches (9-12, 2-6) when they travel to Sanger on Friday. Madera also defeated Sanger, 5-3, on March 19...
