Most of the time it’s the Madera South boys cross country team getting the accolades. However, Cristal Rivera stole the show by winning the 10th annual Golden Eagle Invitational at Woodward Park.
Rivera ran with the pack in the first mile, pulled ahead in the hills during the second mile and torched the field in the final mile to win the varsity girls race Friday at Woodward Park.
“It was awesome,” head coach Rich Parris said. “She has put in a lot of hours over the course of four years to start to shine. It was really great for her. She’s always had the drive and, as she is maturing, her work is becoming more consistent and stronger.”
