Rios wins Runner of the Month

University of California, Merced cross country runner Sofia Rios (Madera South) became the first Bobcat runner to win the California Pacific Conference’s Runner of the Month award for September, announced Tuesday.

Rios placed 31st and first among all non-NCAA Div. I runners at the Fresno Invitational on Sept. 14 and was first among Cal Pac runners at the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 28.

In a 3-1 victory over North Florida, Jacksonville University women’s soccer goalkeeper Sarah Sierra (Madera) recorded four saves to pick up the win.

Running for the UC Riverside cross country team, Alisha Brown (Madera South) placed second for the Highlanders with a 32nd place finish, setting a personal record for a 5K at the Inter-Regional Jamboree in Sacramento on Oct. 4...
