In rematch, Coyotes fall in close CMAC contest

Against the Edison-Fresno Tigers water polo team they beat earlier this month, the Madera Coyotes led after two quarters of play.

On two goals from Polo Duarte, one from Jeremy Rieping, and another from George Martin, all in the second quarter, the Coyotes led 4-3 at halftime even though the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first.

However, that four-score quarter would prove the Coyotes’ best efforts as Edison scored two goals in both the third and fourth quarters while limiting Madera to just one score on its way to a 7-5 County/Metro Athletic Conference win.

“It’s a tough pill to swallow when you lose by two points,” Coyote head coach Rick Martines said. “You know it comes down to the last four minutes and we’re only down by one but we just couldn’t get the ball in the cage.” ...
