Though freshman guard Ammari Gaines only hit one shot in the game, she made it count as her 3-pointer helped the Chowchilla girls basketball team squeak past Madera South.
With the game tied at 40-40 and less than a minute remaining, Gaines connected from behind the arc Tuesday night before Jordan Lasiter iced the game with two free throws to lift the Redskins to a 45-40 road win over the Stallions.
The Madera South defense played near perfect and had defenders on Gaines, who got behind a screen block to sink the 3-pointer, with less than 30 seconds left in the game.
“It was a good shot and there’s nothing you can really do about that,” Madera South head coach Joe Thomas said.
