SRLdriver Jim Pettit II wasn’t about to let another race slip out of his grasp.
After falling five laps short of winning in his last race at Madera Speedway on April 21, Pettit came out strong to win the 125-lap main in the Firecracker 125 on Saturday, which featured the Spears SRL Southwest tour along with Legends of the Pacific, LunkerDaddy Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Toyota Sedans, MSTs and 4-Bangers.
Pettit took the lead after Lap 25 but had a late scare from fast-time record holder Derek Thorn (13.942).
From laps 25-115, Pettit was out in front, ahead of previous race winner M.K. Kanke, before Thorn sailed into the lead with less than five laps to go...
