Pete’s Sports Shop claims Babe Ruth title

Pete’s Sports Shop scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning and held off a bottom of the inning rally to claim the Madera Babe Ruth Championship at Mel Parker Field.

Pete’s, the third seed in the Babe Ruth playoffs, received seven solid innings from Alec Gamboa to upset the top seeded Madera Elks, 5-3, on Saturday.

Gamboa allowed three runs, two earned, and four hits. He struck out 12 batters but walked eight. He was able to strand 10 Elks runners. P.J. Torres walked on and struck out two to pick up the save.

Pete’s struck for two runs in the first and took a 3-2 lead in the third. It held onto the lead until the Elks scored a run in the sixth to tie the score...
