Patriots do quick work in playoffs

After scoring 39 runs in their past three games, the Thomas Jefferson Patriot baseball team’s bats didn’t cool off in a Central Valley Athletic League semifinal playoff game against Rio Vista-Fresno on Monday.

The Patriots scored six runs in the first inning and cruised to a 13-3 mercy-rule victory in five innings to improve to 14-1 and advance to the CVAL championship game on Thursday.

Anthony Marmolejo tossed two innings of one-hit ball to keep Rio Vista off the scoreboard.

In the first, Chris Molina reached on an error. Charles Gray singled to right and Chris Chapa singled to drive in Molina. Nick Zamora grounded out, but Gray came in to score for a 2-0 lead...
