The Mississippi Braves, the Atlanta Braves Double-A affiliate, completed a last-day run to reach the Southern League playoffs on Monday.
The Braves, with former Madera pitcher Gary Moran, fought through a rain delay and a soaked final two innings for a 6-5, 11-inning victory over the Jacksonville Suns. They needed a Mobile BayBears win over Pensacola and got it after Mobile defeated Pensacola, 10-1, before the final out to secure the playoff spot.
After picking up a win Aug. 27, Moran appeared in three of the next four games against the Suns, including an appearance in the playoff clincher.
With the season on the line, Moran came in relief Aug. 30 after two days rest. He tossed a crucial seventh inning of a 3-2 victory. He allowed one hit and struck out a batter in a game Mississippi won in the ninth inning...
