Montagna leads Cabrillo to No. 1

Team captain Kelsee Montagna (Madera) and the Cabrillo College women’s volleyball team remained undefeated and is now ranked No. 1 in the state after last week’s No. 1 lost. Cabrillo, also ranked No. 1 in Northern California, defeated De Anza in three sets on Nov. 8 and defeated San Francisco City College in three sets on Wednesday. Against De Anza, Montagna recorded three kills and two blocks, and against San Francisco, recorded a kill and three blocks.

Sarah Sierra (Madera) and the Jacksonville University women’s soccer team, after capturing the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championship last week, will open the first round of the NCAA tournament today at sixth-ranked University of Florida.

The appearance is the first for the Dolphins since 2006 and came off the heels of a penalty kick victory in the championship game. Goalkeeper Sierra was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

UC Riverside cross country runner Alisha Brown (Madera South) helped the Highlanders to a sixth place finish at the Big West Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2. She finished sixth on the team in 59th place. At the NCAA West Regional Championship on Friday in Sacramento, Brown placed third on the team in 122nd place...
