Montagna, Cabrillo win state

Like Beyoncé said “If you like it, then you should have put a ring on it,” and the Cabrillo College women’s volleyball team liked it enough to capture the California Community College Athletic Associaton state championship Sunday at Foothill College. 

Cabrillo, led by former Madera Coyote Kelsee Montagna, who is a co-captain, finished the season unblemished, winning both matches in the playoff round on Saturday to advance to the championship. 

Cabrillo defeated Grossmont in four sets to improve to 29-0 on the season. Montagna had two kills to go with three blocks in the set. Teammate Kelsey Chaver was on fire with 31 kills in the four sets. 

In the semifinals, Cabrillo defeated Irvine Valley in five sets to improve to 3-0 on the season. Montagna had three kills with four blocks in the victory...
