Mistakes help Coyotes get win

After allowing a run in the first inning, Madera Coyote softball pitcher Jackie Anzaldo was cruising along in a battle with the Central-Fresno Grizzlies just waiting for the offense to come around.

The Coyote (6-5) offense capitalized on three Central errors in the bottom of the sixth inning to score three runs for a 3-1 victory Tuesday at Zimmerman Field. The Coyotes avenged a 3-2 loss last week in the Buchanan Preseason Tournament to their former Tri-River Athletic Conference rivals.

After allowing a run on two hits in the first, Anzaldo allowed just two hits and six base runners the rest of the way. She picked up her third win of the season with a 2.31 earned run average.

“Jackie did a great job for us today,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “We have to do a better job of being nails in the first inning. If we can get Jackie to pitch the first inning like she does the rest of the game, we’re going to be awfully hard to beat.”...
