Mehrten settles in at shortstop

Through the first 66 games of the season, Madera’s Alec Mehrten has been splitting time with two other shortstops for the Asheville Tourists, the single-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

Mehrten has appeared in 26 games for the Tourists and has a .266 batting average to go with six runs scored and 11 RBIs. He also has the least amount of errors of the three shortstops.

After struggling through a four game hitless stretch from May 25-June 1, Mehrten has picked up the pace a little, going 5-for-14 (.357) in his last four games, including a 2-for-4 night with two doubles and three RBIs Thursday in a 17-6 victory over the Rome Braves in the South Atlantic League.
