Mehrten gets a hit in All-Star game

Former Madera shortstop Alec Mehrten singled up the middle in the third inning to drive in a run for the South team at the 2013 Northwest League All-Star game on Tuesday in Everett, Wash.

“The whole experience was just amazing,” Mehrten said. “It was one of the most fun games that I have ever bene a part of. It’s not everyday you get chills running on to the baseball field, but I can honestly say that the hairs on my arms were standing up when my name was announced to run to my position. We play a lot of games during the year, but this one was complety different. The atmosphere was amazing.”

Mehrten and the rest of the Northwest League All-Stars were given VIP treatment before the game. The All-Stars were taken to a Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field. They were introduced on the field and taken to a section for food and to hang out with other players and personnel from other teams.

Mehrten went 1-for-2 in the game and started at third base, representing the Tri-City Dust Devils, the Single-A short season affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Mehrten’s South team lost to the North, 8-7...
