After tying for 10th place at last week’s North Area Championship and earning a trip to the Valley Championships on Monday in Bakersfield, Madera Coyote junior golfer Andrew Medellin finds himself in elite company.

According to longtime Madera boys golf coach Alex Robertson, only three or four Madera players have ever reached the Valley Championship as an individual. The last was Andrew Richardson in 2002. The only Coyote to win a Valley golf championship was Roger Lyon in 1976.

Medellin advanced to the Valley Championship by shooting a 77 at the North Area Meet at Madera Golf and Country Club on May 7. He finished tied for 10th with the top 10 advancing to the Valley Championships.

Medellin will play at Buena Vista Country Club in Taft near Bakersfield...
